Carotid/Vertebral Angiogram and Aortogram
What is a Carotid/Vertebral Angiogram and Aortogram?
The carotid and vertebral arteries are some of the most important in the body, as they supply blood to the neck, face, and many parts of the brain. This procedure involves the use of a long, flexible tube called a catheter, which is inserted in either the wrist or the groin. The catheter is then threaded to either the carotid or vertebral arteries located in the neck, where contrast dye is injected and x-rays taken in order to evaluate blood flow, blockages, or narrowing of the arteries.
Why am I getting a Carotid/Vertebral Angiogram and Aortogram?
Dr. Kiesz has determined that due to either your symptom(s) (dizziness, blurred vision, unexplained falls, slurred speech, among others) and/or concerning results of the carotid doppler, you may have a narrowing or blockage in either your carotid or vertebral arteries. This procedure will help locate such areas, after which Dr. Kiesz can determine the best course of action to relieve the issue.
